How Much More?
Well this is it. The stories keep getting sadder and sadder as more and more people discover that they're loved ones are really gone. Each day I grow more angry, more frustrated and more weary. Tonight I am so tired that I will be taking something to capture the sleep that has escaped me the past three nights. It seems like so much longer. I think it's because I just can't fathom so much pain, death and destruction occurring in a matter of days, but it has.
My greatest fear is being realized. People are starting to turn their minds to other matters. I haven't watched any news coverage, but the papers are certainly reducing their coverage. Now the focus seems to be on getting out the last of the survivors so that they can start a quiet clean-up effort. FEMA is not allowing photos of the dead, which is so awful to me. Regardless of the condition, we need to see our people. If it's the only way to keep our anger turned up, let us see. Show me the body bags so that I can cry and curse some more.
In addition to the Black Writers for Relief program that I'm participating in, I hope to coordinate a series of other programs. One of which is to assemble a panel of people who survived their attempted murder by the goverment. I want those people to come and tell their stories. If anyone knows someone, tell them I will fly them to New Jersey. All they have to do is tell it like it was and is. Another plan is to bring together a forum of local folks who were affected. I heard a story today of a local woman who lost her entire immediate family. I am going to provide a forum for these stories. AND if they will sign a release, I'm going to tape and televise their stories. This message has got to get out A LOT! Especially around election time. People need to look at their elected leaders and see how they compare to those who masterminded this debacle. We have to bring about a change. I don't know how much more I can take, but God has never failed me yet.
